A little about me & Teddy Bear Cottage

My name is Valerie, I am a Mum of 5 kids, Natasha 19, Krysta 14, Jonte 4, Cadell 3 & Zahli 2.

I started Teddy Bear Cottage in 2002 after a holiday to the beautiful Sunshine Coast where I visited the Blackall Ranges, your all nodding now right : ) Who does not love the Blackall Ranges for one reason or another, for me it was the beautiful town of Montville with all the old buildings filled with so many wonderful items.
I visited a shop there called "Country Lane" which at the time was a Teddy Bear Shop, the shop is still there but it has different owners now and all the Teddy Bears are gone :(

Anyway as soon as I walked into this shop I was in heaven and that was the moment that Teddy Bear Cottage really started, it's been my dream ever since to have a shop like that. I'm slowly getting there : )

I bought two little bears "Maddy & Blake" by Korimco and a string of blue wooden hearts that the owner had made. I set off back home to Mackay where I lived at that time with my little treasures & a dream.

Maddy & Blake still sit on my desk, my string of blue wooden hearts still hang at my door and my dream is slowly turning into reality.

I jumped on the computer when I got home and started looking for suppliers, on the 24th May 2002 I registered my ABN and business name, it was official I now had a Teddy Bear business : ) I got my first tiny order of Teddy Bears to sell, from memory it was only about $300 worth.
I didn't have a business plan to take to the bank for a loan to start off big & fancy. What I did have though was a big dream, lots of determination that I would succeed even though I only had a tiny bit of spare cash to get me started.

I believe that if you dare to dream, have the will to succeed you too can do anything you want.

But none of it would be possible without all the amazing customers that I have had over the now almost 10 years since Teddy Bear Cottage was born. Many are now friends too which is wonderful. So thank you so very much to you all, past, present & future customers for helping me make a dream into reality. I still have a long way to go but I have come so far.
